Designing energy efficiency program for household to achieve energy sustainability

Nevertheless, several researchers are still questioning about the impact of the program in promoting the intended behavior. Thus, an appropriate program should be designed carefully to increase its effectiveness. This paper illustrates a theoretical and empirical discussion to arrive on the propose program. The theoretical investigation shows that the appropriate program is community education. Two empirical studies were conducted. The first study shows that an individuals’ level of energy consumption knowledge is not associated with energy saving behavior. However, level of individuals’ concern for energy consumption correlates significantly with energy-saving behavior. The second empirical study concludes that environmental concern and energy education programs positively correlate with energy saving behavior, as well as socio-economic factors and energy-saving behavior.
