To further improve the effectiveness of TMD, Multiple Tuned Mass Dampers (MTMD) was introduced, using several additional masses with different frequency ratios. Although TMD is widely known and studied, very few analytical works were conducted to study the response of system with MTMD and its effectiveness in reducing seismic responses of structures. This paper focuses on the dynamic characteristics of system with MTMD. Several analytical models were developed, and a parametric study was conducted to analyze the effect of MTMD key parameters to the response of the structure. The parameters exercised were frequency range, damping ratio, and the total number of MTMD attached to the structure. The effectiveness of the proposed system was examined numerically using various recorded earthquake ground motions as inputs. The effects of each parameter on different structures were quantified and compared to the responses of structures without TMD and with single TMD. The performance was measured in terms of percentage of reductions of maximum displacement of structures. The results show that seismic responses of structures can be reduced using MTMD with optimum parameters, and therefore improve the seismic performance of the structures. Moreover, MTMD is less sensitive to tuning or to frequency content of input so that it is more attractive for application for structures under seismic loadings. © 2006 by School of Engineering and Technology, Asian Institute of Technology.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”Author keywords” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text]Dynamic characteristics,Earthquake ground motions,Maximum displacement,Multiple tuned mass dampers,Passive control,Seismic protection,Structural response,Tuned mass dampers[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”Indexed keywords” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text]Multiple tuned mass damper,Passive control,Seismic protection,Tuned mass damper[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”Funding details” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”DOI” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″][vc_column_text]Widget Plumx[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
