A management information system called Interurban Bridge Management System (IBMS) was initially developed in 1991 to support activities in BMS Bina Marga (National road and bridge authority), however its benefits in supporting decision making process has been hindered by some weaknesses found in the system. This paper discusses a research effort that aims to develop a prototype of bridge information system supported by the most recent information technologies as an enhancement to the former Indonesian bridge information system, i.e., IBMS. This prototype of bridge information system, so called SIJI, was designed to provide more comprehensive inventory, historical and bridge environment data. SIJI was also developed to improve inspection system and bridge condition evaluation by the use of a webbased information system and Personal Digital Assistance (PDA). The web-based information system allows users to access bridges information anytime and anywhere. While the PDA system allows the bridge inspectors to send bridges conditions timely from the bridges’ location to the bridge managers in the office. Therefore, the system can potentially provide real-time, reliable, and accurate information regarding bridges’ conditions and will improve the bridge management system in Indonesia. This paper also discusses potential benefits and application of such a system for improving the construction project information system. Such an approach is deemed viable to be implemented in remote construction project, where individual project and/or individual unit of works, each possesses important characteristic of the project, can be monitored and controlled remotely. © 2006 by School of Engineering and Technology, Asian Institute of Technology.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”Author keywords” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text]Bridge management system,Decision making process,Management activities,Operation and maintenance,Personal digital assistances,Relational Database,Web based information systems,Web technologies[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”Indexed keywords” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text]Bridge management system,Internet,Relational databases,Web technology[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”Funding details” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”DOI” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″][vc_column_text]Widget Plumx[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
