Safety climate, safety behavior, and accident experience: Case of Indonesian oil and gas company

Common approaches such as engineering approach and written system have been applied in order to minimize accident in this kind of industry. However, accidents still happen, attracting different approach to minimize accident. This study is intended to analyze different approaches in safety – that is safety climate and safety behavior – in relation with accident in an Indonesian oil and gas company. Thirty three workers of an oil and gas company participate voluntarily in this study by filling out safety climate questionnaire. Result shows that there was a significant negative correlation between age and worker safety commitment, worker safety priority and risk non-acceptance. Workers having accident experience perceive safety climate and safety behavior slightly worse than workers having no accident experience. Demographic data of workers such as age and work experience showed critical role in accident.
