Volcanic eruption risk for school building in Indonesia

As the result, Indonesia has large number of volcanoes besides earthquakes. There are around 13% active volcanoes over the world is located in this country, which mainly distributed in the largest islands with a dense population such Java and Sumatra. Thus, Indonesia will highly threatened by damage and loss if the volcanoes erupt. The dense population in volcano slope area indicates that there will be residential area with various public facilities, including schools. School is one of important public facilities that should be managed from volcano eruption risk. The aim of this research is to estimate school buildings damage percentage caused by volcano eruption in Indonesia. The components that should be known to assess risk are hazard, exposure, and the vulnerability. The data will be processed by using spatial modeling, to build the exposure data and showing the distribution. As the result, there are around 1.5% of school building in Indonesia will be damaged by volcanic eruption.
