Analysis of a busy signalized intersection

All rights reserved.One way to alleviate traffic congestion at busy intersections in major cities is by building flyovers bridge (and or an underpass). The flyover facilitates the traffic flow in the directions of the bridge. Before construction, assessment study is needed to estimate the appropriate flyover dimension, as well as how well the flyover built accommodates high traffic demand in that area. One of the busiest intersections in Bandung City was chosen here as a case study, it is the Buah Batu-Kiara Condong intersection. The effectiveness of the proposed flyover construction was evaluated for varying levels of traffic volume by comparing the average delay, and the average queue length. To avoid a secondary problem, traffic operations for roads underneath a flyover was also discussed. Further, simulations of the congested and uncongested vehicles pattern behind a signalized intersection were provided; the long vehicles queue, exceeding 0.5 km before flyover construction would be reduced to less that 0.1 km, if there is a flyover. These results showed the effectiveness of the proposed layout.
