The present study was aimed to determine the safe usage of P. acidus leaves ethanol extract through subchronic toxicity assay. Subchronic toxicity assay was performed on Wistar rats by administering the doses of extract (22.5, 90 and 1000 mg/kg bw) for 90 days. The results showed that the extract could reduce the body weight as compared with the control group. Almost all the haematological parameters after treatment with the extract were found similar to control group (p>0.05). The extract did not affect alanine aminotransferase, glucose, blood urea nitrogen level; but increased the aspartate aminotransferase, creatinine and urine volume (p0.05), but the liver was enlarged and the kidneys were shrunken (p<0.05). P. acidus ethanol extract was found relatively safe for subchronic administration but it should be carefully monitored to maintain the function of liver and kidneys while using at the high doses for long-term usage.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=".vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}"][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title="Author keywords" size="size-sm" text_align="text-left"][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=".vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}"][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title="Indexed keywords" size="size-sm" text_align="text-left"][vc_column_text]Blood biochemistry level,Blood profile,Organ/body weight ratios,Star gooseberrg,Toxicity[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=".vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}"][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title="Funding details" size="size-sm" text_align="text-left"][vc_column_text]The authors thank Ministry of Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia for funding this research.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=".vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}"][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title="DOI" size="size-sm" text_align="text-left"][vc_column_text]https://doi.org/10.5958/0975-6892.2019.00032.7[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″][vc_column_text]Widget Plumx[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
