New experimental data are used to continuously improve the thermodynamic database using FactSage. An example is provided on the slag-matte distributions of Bi, Pb, and Zn in equilibrium with tridymite in the Cu-Fe-O-S-Si system under copper smelting conditions. A closed system equilibration experimental technique with rapid quenching was used. Major element concentrations in phases were measured with electron probe x-ray microanalysis. A laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrum technique was used for determination of Bi, Pb, and Zn concentrations in slag. New experimental data contributed to the optimization of thermodynamic model parameters. Improved thermodynamic databases can be used to accurately predict the elemental distributions in multi-component systems; an example is given for the minor element distributions between slag and matte for industrial conditions.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”Author keywords” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text]Electron probe X ray microanalysis,Elemental distribution,Experimental techniques,Industrial conditions,Multi-component systems,Pyro-metallurgical process,Thermodynamic database,Thermodynamic model[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”Indexed keywords” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”Funding details” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text][{‘$’: ‘The authors would like to thank their industrial sponsors including Anglo American Platinum, Atlantic Copper, Aurubis, Boliden, BHP Billiton Olympic Dam Operation, Glencore Technology, Outotec (Espoo and Melbourne), Kazzinc Glencore, Nyrstar, PASAR Glencore, Rio Tinto’s Kennecott operation, and Umicore for their financial support and collaboration.
