Yet, the access technology to rural areas remains a major problem. For this study, Regency of Garut in West Java, Indonesia was chosen to represent a high population density of rural areas for a techno-economic analysis on providing internet access to users with typical characteristics of those who will constitute the rural users. While previous study shows that internet penetration rates increases with GDP, telephone penetration, and PC penetration in developing regions, in this study penetration of internet is estimated to boost GDP and PC penetration of rural and remote areas, so as to solve the chicken-egg problem. Various fixed and mobile data technologies were evaluated and compared (DSL, VSAT, UMTS, and HSPA) in order to speed up internet penetration. The study produces technology and regulatory assessment to boost internet penetration rate to rural areas. © 2012 IEEE.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”Author keywords” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text]Access points,Access technology,Developing regions,High population density,HSPA,Indonesia,Internet access,Internet users,Mobile data,Penetration rates,Regulatory assessment,Remote areas,Rural and remote areas,Techno-Economic analysis,UMTS,VSAT[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”Indexed keywords” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text]DSL,HSPA,Internet,Mobile Data,UMTS,VSAT[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”Funding details” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”DOI” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text]https://doi.org/10.1109/TSSA.2012.6366081[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″][vc_column_text]Widget Plumx[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
