Stress intensity factors of cracks in three specimen configurations were studied, i.e. cracks emanating from open holes, a crack in stiffened sheet, and a crack in a sheet with a bonded composite patch. The K-gage was used for this purpose, because it is simple to use and only needs standard instruments for strain gage measurements. The results of measurements showed that for a simple geometry of holes and a crack with three holes in one row, the K-gage gave a good correlation with the boundary element method with a difference of less than 3%. For a more complex geometry with two rows of holes the difference is around 15%, which is similar to the difference obtained for stiffened sheets, where results of the K-gage were compared with handbook solutions. A difference of around 1% is obtained for the specimen with a bonded composite patch tested at room temperature. For testing at above 60°C the difference is higher due to the creep of the adhesive for bonding the K-gage.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”Author keywords” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text]K-gage,Laser interferometry,Riveted joints,Structure geometry[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”Indexed keywords” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”Funding details” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”DOI” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″][vc_column_text]Widget Plumx[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
