One of the new development existing in 5G technology is the machine type communication (MTC) as one of the extension of internet of things (IoT). MTC guarantees low power, low cost, and the loose synchronization in narrowband. The cyclic prefix (CP) technique for simple synchronization from LTE technology needs to be improved as it is not suitable for 5G scenarios. If it is implemented to the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) waveform, each symbol will require a separate CP which is not practical for narrowband application in 5G. In this paper, a new scheme of carrier frequency offset (CFO) estimation technique using cyclic prefix (CP) in Generalized Frequency Division Multiplexing (GFDM) system is proposed. Simulations using the proposed technique has been carried out and the result shows that it gives low mean square error.
