Improving quality of graphical representation of bar chart scheduling

Bar chart is essentially an abstract representation of sequences of activities that make of a project. As a project planning and controlling tool, bar chart’s weakness includes lacks of capability in providing a comprehensive representation of time, space, and complexity of the project being examined. This paper describes an investigative attempt to enhance bar chart scheduling model by incorporating graphical representation of project planning and progress into the chart. The first approach aims at improving the graphical quality of a simple bar chart commonly used construction project. An enhanced bar chart model developed around a simple spreadsheet-based bar chart application, where each bar was treated as an object having specific graphical properties. Each bar in the model contains graphical information about the design and actual construction progress, ranging from simple still photo to a short video of project progress.
