All rights reserved.In this paper, we discuss about design and implementation of protocol stack in tactical text messaging radio. The protocol stack consists of Application, Bundle, Network and Multiple access control (mac) layers. The novelty of this paper is the design of bundle and network layers which makes the principle delay tolerant network (DTN) working in the tactical text messaging radio. DTN is network architecture which can work well continuously without losses data even though the network condition is poor. Bundle layer implements store-and-forward data packet (bundle) mechanism. This mechanism replicates bundle from one node to another node in the network. The purpose is to make a data record in every node to avoid the data loss. Network layer routes the data packet from source to destination using epidemic routing algorithm. This algorithm synchronizes data for all nodes and replicates bundles each other. But it makes amount of the bundle in every node will increase continuously. To solve this problem, we implements independent deletion mechanism. This mechanism deletes the bundle in every node if that bundle has received by destination.
