ASTM A 615 Grades 40 and 60 rebars can be used in this respect as long as they have certain mechanical properties outlined in Sect. 23.2.5 of the code. The mechanical parameters governed in that section include yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, the ratio of actual to specified yield strength (the overstrength ratio) and the ratio of actual ultimate tensile strength to actual tensile yield strength (the hardening ratio). This paper presents the results of experimental and analytical research to characterize the mechanical properties of steel rebars available in Indonesian industries. In the study, many samples of steel rebars from various local manufacturers are evaluated. The results show that with respect to the SNI requirements, steel rebars available in Indonesian industries can be basically classified into two categories, i.e. complying steel rebars (i.e. the rebars complying with the SNI 03- 2847-02 requirements) and non-complying steel rebars (i.e. the rebars not complying with the SNI requirements). From this study it is found that most of the complying rebars are those of the low alloy types, while the non-complying ones are those of the tempcore types. The effects of using the noncomplying rebars on the plastic hinge behavior of specially detailed reinforced concrete frame elements (i.e. elements of special moment resisting frame) are also evaluated in this study. For this purpose, two cantilever beam specimens are designed and tested under cyclic loads. One of the specimens is reinforced longitudinally with the complying steel rebars, and the other one is reinforced with the non-complying steel rebars. The behavior sought includes hysteretic responses under cyclic loads, resulting ductility and mode of failure. The results from this study indicate that the use of complying steel rebars in structural elements resisting earthquake induced forces produces good and stable hysteretic behavior of the elements. On the other hand, structural elements reinforced with noncomplying steel rebars demonstrate poor hysteretic behavior.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”Author keywords” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text]Hysteretic behavior,Low-alloy,Overstrength,Structural elements,Tempcore[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”Indexed keywords” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text]Ductility,Hardening ratio,Hysteretic behavior,Low alloy rebars,Overstrength ratio,Specially detailed structural elements,Tempcore rebars[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”Funding details” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”DOI” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″][vc_column_text]Widget Plumx[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
