Duckweeds are also potential for bioethanol production as they can accumulate high starch content. Therefore, this research aimed to increase the content of starch and protein by developing mono- or polyculture cultivation systems and the addition of abscisic acid (ABA). Polyculture system involved a combination of two or three duckweed species, namely Lemna aequinoctialis, Landoltia punctata, and Wolffia arrhiza. Duckweeds were grown in 1/10 strength Hoagland medium supplemented with different concentrations of ABA, 0, 10-3, 10-4, and 10-5 mg/L. Polyculture system and the addition of ABA have no significant effect on the specific growth rate and doubling time. The specific growth rate from the monoculture of L. aequinoctialis, L. punctata, and W. arrhiza were 0,223, 0,212, and 0,177 day-1 while polyculture of three was 0,203 day-1. However, the polyculture system supplemented with 10-3 mg/L ABA resulted in increasing starch by 1,8 fold or 18,6% and also increased the protein by 1,3 fold or 15,6% in comparison from monoculture without ABA. Thus, a polyculture as well as the addition of high concentration of ABA should be opted to increase the starch and protein content of duckweeds.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”Author keywords” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”Indexed keywords” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”Funding details” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_empty_space][megatron_heading title=”DOI” size=”size-sm” text_align=”text-left”][vc_column_text]https://doi.org/10.1063/1.5115630[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″][vc_column_text]Widget Plumx[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator css=”.vc_custom_1624528584150{padding-top: 25px !important;padding-bottom: 25px !important;}”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
