Astronomy Education for Education Activists through Cultural Approaches and Local Wisdom
Knowledge of Astronomy has a long history in Indonesia. Long before science was known in Indonesia, astronomy already had an important role throughout the archipelago. The Indonesian people already have knowledge of celestial bodies, as well as the calendar system used for agriculture, navigation, and religious ceremonies.
Astronomy which later developed in Indonesia is a development of modern science originating from Europe. Bosscha Observatory Founded by K.A.R. Bosscha and Dr. J. Voute in Lembang, Kab. Bandung has become one of the pillars of modern astronomy in Indonesia to date.
How do Indonesian people today understand astronomy? Are cultural understandings and local wisdom related to astronomy still understood in people’s daily lives? Then how about Astronomy education efforts to education activists through a cultural approach and local wisdom?
LPPM ITB in collaboration with the Design Ethnography Lab. FSRD ITB manages the talk show titled Karsa Loka Vol. 009. with the theme “Astronomy Education for Educational Activists through Cultural Approaches and Local Wisdom”, by inviting Dr. Hakim L. Lazy, M.Sc. (Lecturer of Astronomy, FMIPA ITB). This event will be moderated by Meirina Triharini, Ph.D. (Design Ethnography Lab. FSRD ITB)
