Abstract

© 2019 Author(s).In the present work, the dynamic performance of the Bangladesh’s broad gauge train was numerically evaluated based on UIC-518 standard, which covers the analysis of the critical speed of the vehicle, lateral-to-vertical (L/V) force ratio and acceleration of the car body in response to good and bad track condition. Ride-comfort analysis and the impact on human health based on Sperling ride index criteria were also conducted. Parametric study was performed by varying the lateral and vertical stiffness of both primary and secondary spring. Internal damping of coil spring was calculated based on den Boer’s work with a damping ratio of 28%. It was concluded that Bangladesh’s broad gauge train dynamic performance has passed UIC standard. Modification of vertical stiffness of both springs affect the L/V ratio and vertical ride index, whereas the modification of lateral stiffness of both springs affect the critical speed and lateral ride index of the train.
